HISTORY

Valeo’s corporate history began in 1923 in the Paris suburb of Saint-Ouen. The company, then known at Française de Ferodo, concentrated its first commercial activities on the production of automotive brake linings. In 1932, activities were expanded to include the production of clutches and the company was listed on the Paris stock exchange. The 1960’s witnessed a series of corporate acquisitions that enabled diversification into systems supporting heating, air-conditioning, lighting, wiping and the production of electrical components. In 1980 the company shareholders approved the new corporate name of ‘Valeo’ which means ‘I am well’ in Latin. The 1980’s and 1990’s was a period of major international expansion for Valeo, with new production sites opened in the United States, Mexico, Tunisia, Brazil, Japan, Turkey, China, India and various European countries. From 2000 onwards Valeo has established itself as a world leader in innovative technology for parking assistance systems and low CO2 emission, more fuel-efficient vehicles. The reduction of CO2 emissions has become a major element of Valeo’s corporate growth strategy.
