Airline company Qatar Airways was founded in 1993 and is headquartered in Doha. In 2015, it employed more than 37,000 people all over the world.
Qatar Airways was founded in November 1992 and launched its first flight in January 1994. In the beginning, it was a small regional company, but it grew fast under the management of its ambitious directors. In 1995, the company had 75 employees. The CEO of the company was in those days the minister Hamad Ben Jasseem Al Thani. He drove the initial growth of the company. Initially, the fleet of Qatar Airway consisted of two Airbus 310’s, and its route network included a number of cities in Asia and the Middle East. Very soon, the company acquired new aircraft, Boeing and Airbus, and began to fly to destinations on other continents. In 1997, the new CEO Akbar Al Baker announced a new era in the history of the company. To achieve this goal, Qatar Airways was integrated into OneWorld, the network of British Airways and American Airlines. Additionally, Qatar Airways was supported in its home country by a number of special economic priveleges such as reduced airport taxes and salary taxes. As a result, the company grew at a rapid pace. In 2011 and 2012, Qatar Airways was named “Airline of the Year” by the independent agency Skytrax. In 2011, the company achieved the goal of 100 destinations; by 2013, its network had grown to 125, and two years later to 146 destinations.
Qatar Airways is the flagship carrier of the Emirates of Qatar. The company was fully nationalized in July 2013. Before that, half of the shares belonged to Hamad Ben Jassem Al Thani, the former Prime Minister of Qatar and a CEO of the company.
In 2015, the company employed more than 37,000 people all over the world, including 21,000 crew members. The headquarters of the company is located in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
In 2015, Qatar Airways served 146 airports. In 2016, the company plans to launch direct flights to Los Angeles, Boston and Atlanta.

Qatar Airways is a managing company of Doha International Airport, recently renamed as Hamad International Airport. The new airport capacity is 50 million passengers per year. The goal of the airport management is to make Doha and Qatar an international transportation hub.
Finally, Qatar Airways is a big sponsor of sports teams. The company signed a contract for 5 years with the Barcelona football club. The club will receive 30 million Euros per season.
