Paul Hermelin

Qualifications

Paul Hermelin attended Lycée Saint-Louis in Paris. He continued his further education by graduating from the prestigious École polytechnique in 1972 and the Ecole Nationale d’Administration in 1978.

 

Career

He spent the first fifteen years of his career in public service with the French Government. His first position was as an official within the Ministry of the Economy under Jacques Delors. From 1988 to 1991, he worked in Hubert Curien’s Ministry of Research and Technology. He then moved to the Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade, where he served under Dominique Strauss-Kahn from 1991 to 1993.

Hermelin moved into the private sector in May 1993, when he joined Capgemini Group. He first role was the responsibility of coordinating central functions. He was appointed CEO of Capgemini France May 1996, and took his seat on the Board of Directors. He oversaw the corporate merger with Ernst & Young Consulting in 2000, and was appointed CEO of the Capgemini Group in December 2001. In May 2012 he was further promoted to become the Chairman and CEO of the Capgemini Group.

Anecdotes

In January 2013 French President François Hollande appointed Paul Hermelin as his governments special representative for Indo-French economic relations. Paul Hermelin states that he is known in France as ‘Mr. India’.
