Luis Marato joined Amadeus in 2000 as Director of Marketing Finance and has held the role of CFO, Deputy CEO and finally President and CEO. Along with expanding the company he oversaw a successful return to the stock market in 2010.
Training:
Marato graduated with a degree in Law from Complutense University in Madrid. He also has an MBA from the IESE Business School and postgraduate qualifications from both Harvard Business School and Stanford.
Career:
Luis began his career working with the Bertelsmann Group, a German media conglomerate, where he held several managerial positions. In 2000 he joined Amadeus as Director of Marketing Finance and in 2003 he was appointed to the role of Chief Financial Officer, overseeing the entire multinational group’s finances.
In 2009 he was made deputy CEO, where he was responsible for company strategy, as well as managing the Finance, Audit, Legal, and Human Resources teams within the company. Under his leadership the company continued its strategy of international expansion and diversification, and would eventually have over 50 subsidiary companies around the world. In 2010 Marato oversaw the company’s initial public offering, as Amadeus went back to the stock market for the second time. This was after 5 years of being privately owned by Cinven and BC Partners.
Luis Marato has been the President and CEO of Amadeus since January 2011 and has focused on the business’ growth, particularly by providing IT solutions for the needs of the travel sector.
Anecdotes
Marato enjoys the outdoors, and skiing in particular. He has stated that escaping to the mountains gives him the energy to return to work in the city.
