History
In 2012 the United Wagon Company was launched to manage the sales of freight cars produced by the Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant and to manage railcar leasing by RAIL1520.
In 2013 the International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS) certified the Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant as meeting the highest standards of excellence in the railway industry.
United Wagon Company established the Center for Transportation Technologies, a Design Office for experimental works and technological and scientific research in 2014 in St. Petersburg. The center was set up to develop new cost-effective rail cars, bogies and components.
By 2016 United Wagon Company had acquired 100% ownership of Titran-Express, enriching its assets with a modern machine-building plant to service and maintain freight rolling stock.
The company celebrated a milestone in December 2019 when it marked production of 100,000 freight cars completed by the Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant since January 2012.
Andrey Bokarev has been a member of the Board of Directors of the United Wagon Company since 2019.
Description
United Wagon Company is one of the leaders in innovative 1520 gauge rail car design and manufacturing. Often called the “Russian gauge,” 1520 gauge is the second-most common rail gauge in the world.
Along with its subsidiaries, the railway holding provides services for manufacturing, transportation, leasing, engineering and service and maintenance of freight rail cars and many of its products come with advanced technical features.
As of Q4 2020, the company has 9.9 thousand freight cars in its own fleet and under financial lease to other companies. Its production plants have capacity to produce up to 22 thousand railcars every year.
United Wagon Company and its holdings are members of various railway associations. The Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant is part of the non-profit Union of Industries of Railway Equipment and the Union of Car Builders Association.
United Wagon Company itself is part of the Association of American Railroads, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the International Association Railway Supply Institute and the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and Russian Managers Association.
