Cesar Alierta Izuel holds a degree in law from the University of Zaragoza, Spain, and an MBA from the Columbia University of New York, USA.
Career
César Alierta began his career in 1970 as a financial analyst at Banco Urquijo. In 1985, he founded Beta Capital, which he chaired for 9 years. Between 1996 and 1999, he served as a CEO of Tabacalera, and then as a co-president of d’Altadis (1999-2000).
In 2000, he joined Telefonica, where he serves as a CEO till nowadays.
Anecdotes
In 2005, the Spanish-US Chamber of Commerce has granted Cesar Alierta with a “Global Spanish Entrepreneur” award for his outstanding achievements at Telefonica.
