Mario Guevara’s completed his undergraduate studies at the National University of Mexico, where he graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. He continued his further education by completing a Masters of Business Administration at IPADE, the Pan-American Institute for High Business Direction (Instituto Panamericano de Alta Dirección de Empresa), which is closely affiliated with Harvard Business School in the USA.
Career
Mario Guevara was born in Mexico on September 10th 1959. Following graduation, Mario Guevara began his career as a chemical engineer with Mexican industrial corporation Condumex. He later joined the Mexican division of the French company Moulinex, manufacturer of small household appliances, as their vice-President in charge of finance. He began his career with Bic in 1992, when he was appointed Chief Financial Officer for their operations in Mexico. In 1993 he was promoted to Director General for Bic operations in Mexico and Central America. In 1998 he was placed in charge of their commercial activities in South America, and in 2001 he was given responsibility for the company in North America and Latin America. In 2004 he was appointed Executive Vice-President and Chief Operations Officer for Bic global markets. After fourteen years in a variety of roles, in March 2006 Mario Guevara took over as Managing Director and CEO of Bic.
Anecdotes
In an interview for a corporate magazine in 2011, he stated that he valued honesty in another person above all other qualities. He is also an advocate for the use of social media as a tool to promote transparency and accountability in both the public and private sectors.
