Hans Holger Albrecht

Hans Holger Albrecht, born in 1963 in Brussels, is a CEO of the Deezer music streaming platform since 1 February 2015.

 

Education

Hans Albrecht studied law at the University of Freiburg in Germany, and received a PhD at the University of Bochum (Germany).

 

Career

Hans Holger Albrecht grew up in Hanover in a German family. Although he obtained a degree in law, he never intended to become a lawyer. After graduation in 1990, he joined the Daimler-Benz Group as an assistant to the CFO. One year later, he moved to Luxembourg and joined CLT group, a subsidiary of RTL Group. For five years, he was in charge of CLT operations in Eastern Europe and Germany. In particular, he managed RTL2 and launched new projects and TV channels. In 1997, he joined Modern Times Group, a Swedish startup media company, as director of pay-TV services. Three years later, in April 2000, Modern Times appointed him as a Director of Operations, and only six months later, he was elected as a new CEO of the group. He moved to Stockholm to the headquarters of the Group and occupied this position for twelve years. In 2012, he was invited to join another London-based media corporation: Milicom International Cellular. At Milicom, Hans Albrecht took over responsibility for the development of new services and establishing partnerships with other players on the market, including French music streaming service Deezer. The collaboration with Deezer was very successful, so much so that in February 2015 the company appointed Hans Albrecht as its new CEO.

Anecdotes

In December 2013, a sister of Hans Holger Albrecht, Ursula von der Leyen, became the first female minister of defense of Germany. The CEO of Deezer comes from a family of politicians. His father was an important official in the German CDU party and Minister-President of Lower Saxony.
